My marriage is a war song
hammered onto drums,
coarse and booming,
like the hard thump
of skin on skin.

I like the power injected into this, the driven force that colors every beat with the impact of an actual mallet to the face. The tension of skin stretched over the drums, the closed-palm strike… war drums indeed.

Marriage is not always a love song – you have captured the less melodic yet moving sound of a percussion duet!

This poem is really powerful. Short, to the point, but most importantly, impactful.
